Last weekend I finally decided to buy VOGUE Netherlands, our very first issue ever! For months they hyped up everyone about the arrival of this MAJOR and ICONIC fashion mag in our small country of which you would never make a direct link with fashion, right? Well it has arrived, and guess what? I’m kind of disappointed about the cover. Maybe I just expected way too much. The cover is just plain simple to be honest, and fresh faces Ymre Stiekema, Romee Strijd and Josefien Rodermans rocked some Acne, Valentino and Chanel.
Guess what? Vogue Netherlands already stirred up some drama around there first issue. The cover text “Nummer één in Nederland” ( translation: Number one in the Netherlands ) is the SAME cover text of the very first issue of ELLE Netherlands back in 1989. Can you believe that? How original…… NOT!
The cover aside, this first issue was an okay introduction of what we can expect. I surely hope they will introduce more fresh faces and add some more COLOR in Vogue Netherlands, since we always talk about how “we live in a multicultural society”. Hopefully we will see more of that in the future.
Overall, they did a pretty good job.

I feel the same way. I was a bit disappointed about the cover even though they’re fresh new faces. I had high hopes and expected high fashion. I haven’t gotten my issue yet but it looks like they did try to add color with the spread of Alek Wek (it’s her, isn’t it?).
Yeah that’s her indeed. I was surprised actually. I guess they tried to make a point with Alek Wek….even though she’s not from here. And in the canal boat you can see a colored model in the back( not even in the front ), named Iman. If only they’d put her on the cover…..
Maybe in the future they will put someone of color on the cover. I’m hoping for a Suriname lol. Know any Surinamese top models there?
WHuahahaah, well I personally don’t know any models from Suriname actually, but they do exist! I guess colored models here pretty much don’t make it big and get signed to major angencies to represent them.
I love the City Blue look! Pants a bit too short and big shoes. I understand your point, the lack of coloured girls. I think it’s an issue in all fashion magasins. They should carry more chocolate.
Yeah haha I was thinking the same…I really don´t understand those shoes either..hahah waaay to BIG. hahah yeah more chocolate indeed..aah it will always be a major factor in Fashion ;)
Jey, I really like the look. I used to wear big shoes like that, when I wore shoes :)
AaaaH Anette, joker! Well it would look good on you, no doubt ;) Well aren’t you relieved that you only have to walk on flip flops or bare feet now? Well I wish I could! FREEDOM
I’m a little biased on the flip flops. You know sometimes one has to wear proper shoes. It’s really uncomfortable to squeeze free feet into shoes… Gosh what horrible problem I have huh?
